System description
The SPATOLATO technique helps us create the appearance of depth of natural stone and broken segments in the stone. In nature, marble is a semi-transparent stone whose colour shade is given by different mineral admixtures. We can get very close to the desired shade with a wide range of colour shades and to the natural marble structure with the selected Spatolato technique.

Technique instructions

Surface Preparation:

  1. The surface must be dry, firm, and free of stains, oils, and similar impurities.
  2. Smooth the surfaces with DECOR Smooth Relief or JUBOLIN P15 to a total thickness of 3 mm. Once the layer has dried, sand it down and remove the dust.
  3. Apply an ACRYL Emulsion, diluted with water in a 1:1 ratio, onto the dried layer of DECOR Smooth Relief or JUBOLIN P15.

Application Process:

  1. Using a stainless steel trowel and mixed motions, apply DECOR Marmorin in a very thin layer (~0.1–0.2 mm) to the surface. Remove any excess material as you go.
  2. Apply the second and third layers in the same way as the first one. Each layer must be completely dry before applying the next.
  3. Once the final layer is fully dry, polish the surface using a stainless steel trowel.
  4. After complete drying, or after 24 hours, begin applying DECOR Wax. Apply with a stainless steel trowel in as thin a layer as possible. After 3 hours, repeat the procedure.
  5. When the final layer of DECOR Wax is completely dry (approximately 24 hours), begin polishing. Polishing can be done manually or mechanically. For machine polishing, use a lambswool polishing tool. Start polishing at low speed; as the surface begins to gain gloss, slightly increase the speed. For manual polishing, use a dedicated decorative trowel and, with even movements and slightly stronger pressure on the surface, go over the entire surface.
