Vibrant shades and unexpected combinations
Playful maximalism embraces vibrant colours, geometric patterns, fringed textures and unexpected combinations. It puts personality centre stage and gives imagination free rein.
Intense colours come together in unexpected pairings and bold patterns, mingling with striking furniture, decorative objects and works of art. Lavender, berry, sky-blue and tropical-fruit shades intertwine and complement one another.
Despite its seemingly carefree character, creating this kind of interior takes a great deal of thought. The key is finding a creative balance between colours, patterns and textures.
Architect's tip
The ceiling is often overlooked when painting, even though it offers a wonderful opportunity for bolder creativity. A coloured ceiling can add depth, highlight architectural features and visually define different functional zones. Painting graphic shapes – stripes, blocks or rounded waves – creates particularly interesting optical effects.
